BSc - Exams rules

The following Examination Regulations apply to all examinations (Final and resit). Any violation of these regulations may constitute an attempt at cheating and lead to you being excluded from the exam.

  • Sessions & Timetables

    You will be examined during the final exam sessions, which generally occur on-site at the end of the academic semester. Additionally, instructors may decide to have mid-term test sessions during the semester. Students who fail to pass a course at the end of the academic semester are also required to attend the resit exam session.

    Attending exam sessions is mandatory. The students are responsible for referring to the examination timetable and noting the examinations' date, time, and location. Resit exam dates will be notified through ad hoc communication.

    Examination timetables are available to students on the CampusLife application. Students are responsible for regularly checking their exam timetable in case of unavoidable changes.

  • Personal ID

    Students must bring a valid student ID or passport to all examinations. Students who do not have valid identification will be refused admission to the exam venue. The invigilator will check the student ID before entering the examination room.

  • In case of illness

    Students absent from a scheduled examination due to serious illness may submit a medical certificate to the Programme Office within 5 working days from the date of the missed exam. If students don’t provide any medical justification, they will be considered absent.

  • Arriving late

    Students arriving late will be permitted entry within the first 30 minutes of the examination, with no extra time provided. Students will not be admitted to the examination room after the first 30 minutes of the exam’s start.

  • What you can & can't bring/use

    Students cannot enter the examination room unless the school’s invigilator authorises it.

    Bags and jackets are to be placed in a specific area in the examination room under the instruction of the invigilator. No electronic devices, such as mobile phones or smartwatches, may be taken to the student’s seat. Mobile phones will need to be placed in student bags and switched off. Students are advised not to bring personal or valuable belongings to the examination room. The school cannot accept responsibility for the loss, theft or damage to any private property left in examination rooms or other designated areas.

    Writing utensils, authorised aids, and one bottle to drink are the only resources allowed into the examination room. Pen boxes are not allowed.

    If calculators are allowed during the respective exam, students can only use a non-programmable calculator. The school provides students with non-programmable calculators during the exams (final and resit) sessions. The type of non-programmable calculators distributed are the only calculators students can use when requested during the exams (final and resit) sessions. Students are not allowed to bring with them any other different calculator.

    No book or paper of any kind may be taken into the examination room unless the Professors have duly authorised it for use in the examination room. Students have to use the distributed paper only. This also applies to draft papers (for making notes).

  • Leaving the room

    No one is allowed to leave the examination room during the exam, the only exception being on grounds of ill health. In such a case, the candidate concerned must leave the building and cannot take part in the exam.

    Using the toilet during the exam is not allowed. Students are advised to use the toilet before entering the examination room.

    Students are not allowed to leave the examination room for the first hour after an exam begins or the last 15 minutes before the end of an exam. Students cannot leave the examination room when exams are less than one hour long.

  • End of the exam

    As soon as the end of the exam is announced, students are not allowed to continue writing or to talk until all exam copies by all students have been collected. Continuing to write or talk constitutes cheating.

    Students have to use the distributed paper only. This also applies to draft papers (for making notes). When submitting the exam, all documents without exception, including the cover page with your name, all your notes and all blank sheets, are to be turned in. Before leaving the room, you must report to the invigilator, who will register the time you leave the room.

  • Cheating

    Any cheating or attempt to cheat will lead to the exam being graded as "failed", irrespective of whether the attempt to cheat is successful or not. The ultimate decision rests with the respective examination commission, which will also decide on further disciplinary measures. Attempts to cheat include, but are not limited to:

    • Bringing into the examination room resources other than those authorised, such as mobile phones, smart glasses, dictionaries with notes, and programmable calculators;
    • Bringing into the examination room any form of own paper, including crib notes or cheat sheets, regardless of whether the content is useful for the exam or not;
    • Any conversation with other exam candidates or a third party (irrespective of the content) outside of the examination room for the duration of the exam and inside the examination room after being seated and before the invigilator has collected all exams;
    • Exchanging notes, paper, aids or exams with other candidates;
    • Opening your exam or writing before the exam has officially commenced, or continue to write after the exam time is over.
  • Invigilators

    ESCP Business School delegates full authority to the respective invigilator(s) supervising the exams. Their authority includes the right to exclude students who violate the rules from an exam. Students taking part in exams (candidates) or who find themselves within or near an examination area are obliged to follow the invigilators’ instructions.

  • Grades: success & failure

    The minimum grade to pass a final exam is 8/20 (40% of the overall grade). Students also need to have a minimum final grade of 10/20 (50% of the overall grade) to pass courses. If a student’s final grade is below 10/20, or if the final exam grade is below 8/20, the course is considered failed, and the student must take a resit exam during the same academic year.

    In case of a resit session, If a student’s grade is below 10/20 after the resit exam, they must take a resit exam during the next academic year.

  • Resit sessions

    Students are allowed to take any exam twice per academic year:  either via a regular exam (1st chance) and a resit (2nd chance).

    If students have taken and failed their regular exam and resit exam in a previous year, they need to take a resit in the following year. Please be aware of specific circumstances related to the German and UK degree eligibility.

    Resit exams for all courses, including foreign language modules, take place during a designated resit period. Resit exam dates will be notified through ad hoc communication. There is only one resit exam per semester per academic year.

    • Resit sessions in B1, B2, and B3 are usually organised on campus in February/March for the Fall semester courses and May/June for the Spring semester courses.
    • In extraordinary situations, the School reserves the right to organise an additional resit session. In such cases, you are required to attend the resit session assigned to you by the Programme Office.

    Attending the resit session is mandatory for students who fail courses, and there is no possibility of arranging an ad hoc exam sitting at a remote location.

    Students are required to arrange their schedules to ensure their presence at the resit session on the Paris, London, Turin, Madrid, and Berlin Campuses, even if they are undertaking an internship in another geographical location. No exception will be granted, and an absence at the resit will result in the course’s non-validation.

  • Resit in a different campus

    Bachelor students can ask to attend the Spring resit session at a campus different from the one on which they participated in the course. They should answer a survey sent by their Programme Office in May within seven (7) days, specifying the target campus (among the list of campuses offered). The school reserves the right to decide whether to accommodate the request.

  • Resit grades

    If a student’s grade is below 10/20 after the resit exam, they must take a resit exam during the next academic year.

    The final grade awarded after the resit exam will no longer consider prior continuous assessments (e.g., quizzes, midterm exams, etc). In case of a resit, the percentile will not consider the resit grade. However, the new grade will be included in the calculation of the GPA.

  • Resit additional fees

    Please note that an additional 500€ fee apply for the second resit session, and every other session after that.

    That is:

    • First regular session: free
    • First resit session: free
    • Second resit session: 500€ fee
    • Third resit session: 500€ fee
    • Any other following resit session: 500€ fee for each resit session.
