BSc - Languages

The language of tuition is English or, for some specific courses, the campus language.
Contact the Campus Language Centre for information on language courses.
All campuses offer courses in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Please note that other languages (e.g. Mandarin, etc.) are available at some campuses only.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS BY YEAR

Year Language requirement ECTS
B1 Campus 2 language (or substitute language 1) 3ECTS
B2 Campus 2 language (or substitute language 1 continued or substitute language 2 if SL1 not available, or equivalence in case of exemption) plus Campus 3 language (or equivalence in case of exemption) 6ECTS
B3 Campus 3 language (or substitute language 1 continued) 3ECTS

Exemptions:
Students who are native speakers or meet the exemption criteria in a language can submit a request to the Campus Language Centre (see exemption table below). Proof of proficiency must be provided when applying for exemption.

  • FIRST YEAR (B1): Campus 2 language

    If exempted:

    • Students must choose a substitute language offered on their campus.
    • The substitute language will be continued in Year 2, together with the Campus 3 language.

  • SECOND YEAR (B2): Campus 2 and Campus 3 languages

If exempt from Campus 2 language:

    • Students continue the substitute language started in Year 1, if available on Campus 2.
    • If not available, they must select a new substitute language.
(Exception: not applicable in Turin, where students exempted from Italian automatically receive 3 ECTS)

If exempt from Campus 3 language:

    • Students are exempted and automatically receive 3 ECTS.

    Special case
Students registered for London as Campus 3 may choose their second validated language from among those offered on Campus 2.

  • THIRD YEAR (B3): Campus 3 language

    • Students must continue the substitute language studied in previous years.
    • In case of track change:
    1. Students exempted from their new Campus 3 language must continue the language studied in Year 2 (i.e. the language corresponding to their originally assigned Campus 3).
    2. If this is not applicable, they must continue the other language studied in Year 2.

  • Guest language courses

Some campuses offer students the possibility to follow an additional language course as a guest.

    Please note:

No grades and no ECTS are awarded. Guest courses do not count towards the GPA. The course will appear on the transcript only if the student fulfils all course requirements (attendance, assignments, etc.). Students who do not comply with course rules may be excluded.
